Special
Interest |
In
the first two chapters the country is ravaged by a locust swarm, which the prophet regards
as heralding the 'day of the Lord'. The last two chapters describe the judgement executed
against enemy nations on that day. The language and style are among the finest in the
prophetical writings. On
the day of Pentecost, Peter quoted Joel's prophecy of the gift of the Holy Spirit.
The second part of the
|
 |
Time |
Virtually
nothing specific is known about Joel or when he wrote. But since the book speaks of Israel
scattered among the nations (Joel 3:2), it must obviously be later than the exile in
Babylon. Possibly it relates to the same period as Malachi (515 - 445 BC). Some authors put the book at near 400 BC. |
