Activity 1: Messages

A. Each of you will have certain roles to play within the group: Recorder, Presenter, Designer/Researcher and Group Leader. Decide who will fulfill each function for this activity. You will swap roles in the next activities so you will have a turn at presenting your group's ideas to the class.

B. In your group, discuss and make a list of 4 - 8 different kinds of messages you hear in one day. Look at the media links in the right hand box for some of those messages. Click here for a chart to fill in.

  • Who gave the message?

  • What was the purpose of the message?

  • How did you react to the message?

Write up these messages to be presented to the class.

C. In your group, discuss the Bible as a source of messages.

  • What messages come to mind through the stories of the Bible that you know already? List them on the chart.

  • Who brought/gave the messages?

Answer and write up these responses in the chart provided.

D. As a class, discuss these responses and list the 10 most common messages heard each day and 5 messages from the Bible. Reach a class consensus about which of these messages is the most popular.
