Process

Radio Play & Song  - Song Writer

Your group is to create a 5 minute Radio Play explaining to the audience the "new" Solar System and you are to enhance this play by writing some songs (or ditties).

You have researched the history of the discoveries of the Solar System, the definitions and participated in a Galactic Debate. You are now to use this knowledge to create the songs (or ditties) for a new radio mystery/suspense series in the vain of War of the Worlds (the 1938 radio script that sent the listening world into a flurry as they thought the war was actually happening!).

You are to incorporate a song or ditty about all of the following "characters" into your play. Each of these mood songs (or ditties) should use one of Gilbert and Sullivan’s musical tunes, or, (if you are musically inclined) create an original musical score with words based on  Gustav Holst's The Planet Suite or the Musical: Music of the Planets.

Each song (or ditty) should explain to the world the "new" order of the Solar System and should be as scientific as possible. There are a range of resources about each celestial body!

·         the demise of Pluto;

·        Eris (the new name of Xena as of 13th September 2006)

·         Ceres;

·         Charon

·         Quaoar

·         Kuiper Belt Objects

You are to work closely with the selector of music or the creator of music. With this person, you are to decide on the Title of the Song.

You are to work with the script writer as the script is to contain references to the songs, sound effects as well as the actors' dialogue.

In addition to the songs, you and your team are to present a recorded demo-version of the play, complete with the songs, sound effects, that will be recorded on audio cassette.
