Waiters serve food and drinks to customers in
restaurants, cafes, diners and similar establishments.
A waiter's job may include some or all of the
following tasks:

- welcome and seat customers and provide them with menus
- advise guests on menu and beverage items
- take customers' orders and pass them to kitchen staff or bar

Waiters greet customers, take their orders, serve their
meals, and give them the bill. A Waiter also has to communicate closely with the chef in
order to find out what is on the menu,
and let the chef know what the customer has chosen
to order. Waiters act as a "go-between" for both the customer and the chef.
Waiters often work during the evenings, weekends and public
holidays. They spend long periods on their feet and may often have to deal with difficult
customers.
A good waiter needs the following personal requirements:
- respectable presentation
- good communication skills
- good memory
- politeness and patience
- friendliness, efficiency and speed
- ability to work in a team
- prepared to work weekends and evenings
- ability to handle money
