Archaeologist

Research and Development

An archaeologist searches material found at archaeological sites for the remains of human civilisations and learns about ancient societies from their discoveries.

Archaeologists look for any ancient objects or human and plant remains so they can try to reconstruct the history, customs and ways of life of someone living at that time.

Archaeologist use many scientific techniques to establish the age, material and use of an artefact. 'Carbon Dating' is a very accurate scientific technique is used to find out exactly how old something is.

By studying the geology, plant life, human bones, and other objects found at the archaeological site, the archaeologist can find out how the society hunted, farmed or traded, and what the societies' religious beliefs may have been.
