Management consultants learn the procedures and
systems used in organisations to work out how workers and the organisation can
function at their best.
Management consultants may perform the following tasks:

- collect information relating to the function of each area
within an organisation and the specific duties performed by each person
- assess the types of tasks undertaken in each section, the
methods or systems used, length of time taken for an worker to finish the job, and any
problems involved
- read internal training manuals, files and job descriptions to
get more information
- study information such as statistical records, reports and
organisational charts
- write reports and provide evidence to support them
- help start new systems
- talk with experts in other areas specific to the task
Management consultancy work may sometimes be
done by people who are employed in other areas, such as engineers, personnel workers,
technicians, computer programmers or systems analysts.
Management consultants usually work indoors in offices. When looking at a company's
systems, they may have to work at that company's premises. |
To become a management consultant requires the completion of
a degree.
