Brown onions shown here are only one type of onions that can be found! Have a look at your local Green Grocer and count up the different varieties of onion. Then go to the grocery shop and count the number of products that contain onions - don't forget to look at the pickled onions section!!!

Ask and find out from your family what dishes contain onion that you eat! Discuss with a partner at school.

Internet Shopping - A comparison of prices and value!

What to do:
1. Make a shopping list of fruit and vegetables that your family might require in one week. If you are in a high school, ask the home economics teacher if you could have a sample list of what this faculty would buy each week in fruit and vegetables.

2. Draw up a table with 5 columns.

3. Woolworths now has online shopping. Go to the Woolworths' web site - you will have to register so ask your parents' permission. Look at the vegetable/fruit section and select the fruit and vegetables you might require. Write down the prices along side your list of green groceries in column 2.

4. Coles also has online shopping.  Again choose your fruit, vegetables or herbs. List the prices in column 3. Note any features that are different to Woolworths and write them down in column 5.

5. Food Direct is another green grocer online based in Brisbane. List their prices in column 4. Any differences to the other two is noted in column 5.

Are you getting value for money?

Are there any differences between the three online green grocer shops? Describe in detail. Which one would you buy from? Why?

Now ask the person in your household that buys the green groceries if they would consider buying online. Find out the reasons and present these to the class or your family.
