Team 3: Personal Profile -
Jenny

Fairly fit and active. I like to do things outdoors.

Creative, enjoys outdoors, quite introverted.

Kate and Emily are my closest friends. We do some stuff together
most weeks. Generally we just hang out at one another’s house or
sometimes we go to the movies.

I’m involved in most of the things you have to do at school. I’m in
the Student Representative Council (SRC) but just as a worker, not
in the limelight.

Mum is a member of CWA, which is a women’s service organisation.
They do things in the community. I don’t see myself joining them
– just yet – they are all pretty old. But down the track I might join
something like that – even as a way of meeting people. Mum says
networking is really good. I don’t mix well as I am pretty shy- so
joining a group might help me.

I’m in the usual sort of things you get into at school - like SRC
etc. But I am fairly quiet so I tend to stay low key.

| Money?
|
Money is
fairly important. It seems that when you have money things
go a bit more smoothly for you. It would be great not to
have to save forever to get stuff. Dad is not a believer in
Credit Cards and stuff. |
|
Possessions?
|
I have some
nice things and I value them because I don’t get every thing
I ask for. Mum and Dad don’t believe you should have life
handed to you on a plate, so Either I get something for
special occasions or I save to buy it myself. |
| Religion?
|
Mum is
Church of England and Dad is Catholic so the religion thing
has been a bit of a problem at times. Joanne and I are both
Catholic. I don’t think it should matter if you are a good
person. |
|
Marriage?
|
I would like
to get married on day in the future, if I meet the right
person. I don’t have a boyfriend at the moment- in fact I’ve
never had one. I think I might be too shy for most guys to
bother trying to get to know me. Joanne has always got some
guy chasing her around. She is really gorgeous and popular. |
| Politics?
|
I think it
is really important to know what is going on and to discuss
things. If you don’t get involved you can’t whinge when the
politicians do stuff you don’t like. |
I have been brought up to believe that I am no better or no
worse than any one else in the world. I try to treat everyone with
respect.

In an ideal world what would be
your 5 year plan?
To work out what I want to do and to be on the way to achieving it.
What things are standing in the way of achieving this?
I am really aware that Joanne has made it hard for me as the
pressure is on to get into Uni. When she did Year 12 it was a bit
easier. Mum and Dad just expect that I will get in to Uni, but there
are no guarantees that I will and I am not sure what it is that I
want to do.
What might be some of the solutions?
I guess I really need to talk to the Careers Adviser and sort out
what I want to do. I could also do an Arts Degree and package it in
such a way that I have a range of options.
How will you support yourself if you decide on further training
after school?
I’ll probably stay at home for a while until I can save some money.
If I have to leave home to go to Uni I will have to get a Part-time
job to help support myself. Mum and Dad have said they will pay for
my accommodation, but I would have to pay for my everyday expenses.
Once I have been working for a certain period of time – if I have
earned over a certain amount of money I can apply for Independent
Youth Allowance.

We are pretty close as a family. Mum and Dad both have close
families so family is pretty important. Mum and Dad are really
focussed on Joanne and I both “making something of ourselves”. They
are really determined that we finish our educations. While they do
OK financially they believe that they would be better off if they
had better educations.
What is important as far as values go?
Be fair and tolerant towards others, to contribute to society
and to be the best you can be – no matter what that is.
