Communication I am a pretty good communicator. We have been brought up in a really open, honest family and have discussed all sorts of things at home. Being able to talk things through is really great.

Negotiation It goes along with good communication. If you can talk through things, and compromise, you are half way to solving any problem.

Numerical I’m pretty good with numbers. Not brilliant but I know enough to get by and to be able to work out the things I need, particularly with photography.

Technological I can use the computer and have had some great success with digital photography. I would love to become more skilled in aspects of computer imaging.

Social I have a great group of friends and we do lots of things together. They include me in all their activities, so I have had experiences that lots of people in a chair wouldn’t have had. My Mum would freak if she knew half the mad stuff we’ve done.

Physical Like I said, I do lots of the things my friends are involved in, like basketball, swimming, tennis etc. The guy who was my physio in hospital during my rehab has kept in touch with me and is encouraging me to get involved in some form of sport so that I might enter the Paralympic games some time in the future.

Creative There’s my photography and I like drawing and fashion. I think if the photography didn’t work out I might get into fashion design.

Leadership I think I am a natural leader, but in a quiet way. I think my friends have all stayed around because I am a bit of a “leader of the pack” type.

Practical I’m pretty good with my hands. I can sew, and when I was in Year 8 I made a really cool bread box for Mum in Wood Technics. She still uses it.

Home duties I help out where I can at home. Because of the chair I can’t do some things. I tidy my room and do the vacuuming most weekends.

I’m good at photography and drawing. I’ve won a couple of awards for my photography.

Casual work:
Babysitting for my family and some family friends. They are really supportive and their kids are really great with me. They love to be taken to bed on my chair.

Work Experience:
School was a bit worried about me doing Work Experience in Year 10 as it was only a couple of months after I came out of hospital. I did it in Year 11. I helped out in a Photography studio in the suburb next to home.

• St John’s First Aid Certificate.
