PROCESS

Team 1: Personal Profile - Nathan

Short and very pale, mousey hair. I think I have a fairly forgettable appearance, and I have braces at the moment which is fortunate, because my teeth were disgusting.

Quiet, determined, intelligent.

I don’t have a friendship group at all really. I mean it is more an interest group. I don’t get along with them the majority of the time but they share the same interests as me so I find it bearable hanging around James and Mitch. But that’s all!

The only thing that I involve myself in is chess club. I don’t see any point to volunteering myself for things I can’t stand doing. I also always go in the science, maths and English comps.

I have not really been involved with anything community service based.

I do not play sport so that counts out those types of organisations. My time is spent at home doing school work, playing computer or video games and watching tellie.

Money? I think that people should appreciate money most when it is hard earned. I think that money only really holds personal value if it was earned.
Possessions? I don’t have nice clothes really and the possessions that I value are those that I get a lot of use out of. Like my PC and x-box, plus my games and electronic equipment. I like my possessions because of their usefulness and for entertainment purposes.
Religion? I think that religion is the cause of many evils in the world and that less emphasis should be placed on it. I can’t stand religion. I also have little time for people who let their religion dictate their lives.
Marriage? I guess marriage is a good idea. But I’m not sure if I could live with someone else, particularly a girl, for the rest of my life. I don’t think a girl has even looked twice at me.
Politics? I believe very strongly that we should support our allies. There needs to be commitment and continuation on the war against terror. It is for these reasons that I would like to follow my aspiration to become a defence analyst.

I don’t really have a particular attitude to others. I kind of stick to myself and get along with a few kids in my year who have similar interests.

In an ideal world what would be your 5 year plan?
To complete a University degree at ADFA (Australian Defence Force Academy)or another Uni if this is not possible. To have a position with the Department of Defence as a defence analyst.

What things are standing in the way of achieving this?
The possibility that I might not meet the rigorous criteria set up by ADFA to gain entry. There is also a slight possibility that I may not get the ATAR required.

What might be some of the solutions?
I will have to research and prepare for this particular selection process. I will also have to put in some extra study time to ensure that I get the grades necessary for University entry.

How will you support yourself if you decide on further training after school?
My father believes that it is best for young people not to start their careers with a HECS debt. Therefore he will be paying my University and tuition fees. I will live at home for the duration of my training, but will be expected to get a casual or part-time job to pay for the things that I may need during my time at University.

My family only really consists of the three of us, we do not keep in regular contact with the extended family.

Mum and dad are very supportive and encourage me to do the things that I want to do. I think that they sometimes feel frustrated by the fact that I would much rather stay in my room and play x-box rather than play football, especially seeing as dad played it when he was young.

What is important as far as values go?

I guess that you at least have them. There are so many people who don’t have a strong set of values, and they are the types of people who create conflict and bad feelings. I always get picked on by people who set no standards for themselves.
