WORKSHOP - INDIGENOUS COOK BOOK

YOUR PRODUCT

This project means that you are going to investigate Indigenous Australian plants in your area (and beyond!). You will grow your own herbs and plants in the area allocated and create your garden centre.

You will research the local Indigenous community recipes using these plants, experiment and create new recipes.

You will then collate into a beautiful Australian Indigenous Cook Book for sale across Australia.

YOUR TASK

Although you will be given responsibilities within your business (roles) each of you will have to contribute to making this business a success by getting your hands dirty! This means that you will all be involved in selecting plants, growing plants, looking after them, collecting recipes, cooking, and then using the Video Production business to take photographs so you can make up a Recipe Book for sale.

GETTING STARTED

Here are some ideas to help you along the way......to running "My Business Rules" - remember you have to come up with something different and interesting for people to buy your cookbook!

Questions for you to consider:

  • How will your cookbook be different to others already produced?

  • What plants do you need to start growing?

  • Which people in your community should you ask for help with indigenous plants and their functions?

  • What are the growing conditions for your plants? When can we start planting them - from seed? from cuttings?

  • Are there any plants around town that you need to photograph? You will have to employ the Video crew to do this for you. (Again, you will need to negotiate with the Video crew about the cost of doing this for you!)

  • What recipes will be in this cookbook?

  • Will you have a glossary of plants and how to prepare them?

  • Will you have modern recipes using native foods or traditional recipes or both?
